I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling leaves in glee;
A poet could not be but gay,
In such a jocund company!
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
Out-did the sparkling leaves in glee;
A poet could not be but gay,
In such a jocund company!
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
The actual daffodils are from our garden. The photos are courtesy of my husband. The poem is William Wordsworth's "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud."

But have you seen this yet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXbrSALG684
Heh. This was actually made to try to get people to come up to the Lake District. Heh heh.
@Dr. S: Hilarious!! I don't think I've ever seen a rapping giant squirrel (?). :) Thanks for sharing!
Not a problem. That video cracked me up so much when it first came out; the Lake District tourism board apparently made it to appeal to a younger generation of tourists.
It's one of the only YouTube videos I've ever shown a class of students that made them go, "Why did you show us this?? It's so awful!"
